All About Affirmations

Daily affirmations are more than something you scroll past on your discovery page, pin onto a digital mood board or share on an Instagram Story. It can be understood that affirmations began way back in the form of sacred mantras, which were repeated as part of a daily meditation practice. As society evolved and New Age modalities of ‘healing’ and ‘self-care’ increased in popularity, the use of repetition and ‘self-talk’ followed as a trend. Mantra still exists within a religious and spiritual context. However, daily affirmations take on a more Western Philosophy and are often closely linked to motivation, self-esteem and manifestation. Although similar in their methodology and somewhat related, it must be noted that affirmations and mantras are two separate entities. Mantras are to be studied, whilst affirmations should really just pour out and feel very personal. In this blog, we’ll be looking at how we can boost our confidence and make moves towards building a positive relationship with our skin!

Some Affirmations for You

As mentioned in our previous blog on ‘The Power of Journaling’, not everyone finds the connection between personal life and plain paper a clear one. Here are just a couple of affirmations to start with if you’re drawing a blank:
  • I love and approve of myself (Credit: Louise Hay)
  • Think I am poised and powerful, radiant and magnetic (Credit: Florence Scovel Shinn)
  • I now possess the strength to love all of myself. I have the courage to listen to what is guiding me. And the confidence to go out, stand tall, and fearlessly deliver my gifts into the world. (Adapted from: Marianne Williamson)
  • When I receive a download from Inner Guidance, I act on it without question and without force. (Credit: Tara-Nicholle Nelson)

And Here are Some Examples

Okay, so now you’ve built up the motivation to write, it’s time to focus deeper. As an example, we have given a few examples of statements you can use to find a positive relationship with your skin:
  • I love my skin and I appreciate how healthy it is
  • My skin is healthy and supple
  • I am more than my acne
  • I am grateful for the time I have lived to acquire my lovely wrinkles
  • My skin takes care of me and I take care of it
Inspired by our ‘Uplift’ campaign, launched in July. So, we decided to use the power of words to share narratives and re-write our own. Physically producing an Urban Veda Journal that allows you to practice daily affirmations, whilst also tracking your mood, menstrual cycle and skin fluctuations!
