Glamour Awards Gold

We’re super excited to announce that we were shortlisted on the 2021 GLAMOUR Power List for Best Ayurvedic Skincare Range! As a small, independent skincare brand, this really means the world and we’re super grateful to have been recognised. To celebrate and acknowledge our accolade, here’s a brief lowdown on Ayurveda and our brand story…

What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is derived from the Sanskrit ‘ayur’ meaning ‘life’ and ‘veda’ meaning science/ knowledge. Ayurveda dates back approximately 5,000 years. People believe it is the oldest-surviving medical system in the world. Embracing medical science, philosophy, psychology, alchemy and spiritual understanding. The foundation of Ayurveda is to create a unifying balance of your mind and body and achieve a blissful state of balance.

Urban Veda’s Mission

Although Urban Veda are relatively new on the scene, our beginnings hail from a 35-year-old family run business. This business began with the father of now owner, Sheilesh Shah, who began his journey as an Ayurvedic doctor. What began as importing spices and herbs, blossomed into multiple branches designed to cater for all Ayurvedic principles and utilise the trusted methods of ancient philosophy. Urban Veda began with a mission to bring the natural majesty of Ayurveda to a modern world. Bridging the gap between complex theory and relatable everyday rituals, Brand Director Tanya Shah, works hard with a small team of four other women to make Ayurveda accessible through Ayurvedic skincare products.

Urban Veda’s Ayurvedic Skincare Products

Ayurveda is at the core of our brand. Shi himself has formulated our skincare products to align to the Ayurvedic doshas and therefore different skint types.

The Vata dosha...

... ruled by Air and Ether tend to have very dry skin due the combination of the two dry, air elements. Anything warming and hydrating is vital to remaining in balance, so our Radiance range is full to the brim of fruit enzymes to boost hydration levels and restore an even skin tone. The key ingredient of Turmeric is highly inflammatory. It works to reduce signs of pigmentation and bring dull looking skin back to life due to its natural skin brightening properties.

The Pitta dosha...

... is governed by Fire and Water. Therefore, they have fire as a dominant element. This translates in skin that can burn in the sun easily, prone to redness or inflammation and is therefore generally sensitive. So, our Soothing range caters to this particular dosha and features Sandalwood as the key ingredient for its powerful healing and anti-inflammatory properties. Alongside Sandalwood sits Lavender, Clove Oil, Rosemary and Ylang Ylang. They all help in reduce inflammation and bring about a sense of calm to the skin.

The Kapha dosha...

... is comprised of the Earth and Water elements which can mean Kapha skin is often oily, congested and acne prone. This is due to the overproduction in the sebaceous glands. The key for Kapha skin to remain in balance is oil balancing and congestion controlling ingredients, such as Indian Neem, Tea Tree and Witch Hazel. Our Purifying range contains all the typical ingredients associated with controlling congestion and reducing blemishes. However the high concentration of natural ingredients keeps your skins moisture barrier intact, instead of stripping it away.

Tri-Doshic...

... means those who are a combination of all three doshas and we have our Reviving range. Additionally, this range is for all skin types. With particular focus on tired and mature skin that craves an element of revival and rejuvenation. Bulgarian Rose cools puffiness and redness. Whilst natural pro-aging ingredient such as Rosehip work to encourage cell regeneration and kick-start collagen production. This delicate, floral range also features Jasmine, Geranium and Rose Flower water.
