Protein-Packed Snack

protein packed snack Protein balls make the perfect, protein packed nibble for both morning and afternoon and since it is Wellness Week, why not give them a try? They are so versatile and simple to assemble and provide the body with a multitude of health benefits from the various ingredients that form them, whatever your dosha. Tailor-make them to include your favourite nuts, seeds and powders and for those looking to balance your dosha, here are some simple recipes that will make 15-20 balls and all suitable for realigning your dosha type:

The protein ball for Vatas:

Ingredients:
  • 2 large handfuls of Cashew nuts
  • 130g pitted dates
  • 2 tbsp Chia seeds
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp honey
  • Shredded coconut (optional)
The ingredients in this ball will deeply hydrate Vata’s internally. Chia seeds are known for their hydrating properties as well as a high level of fibre therefore promoting a healthy digestive system, also important for Vatas. Cinnamon is also internally warming and cashew nuts will ground the airy fairy Vatas.

The energising ball for Pittas:

  • 100 grams of toasted sunflower seeds
  • 130g pitted dates
  • 2 tbsp ground flax seeds
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • Shredded coconut (optional)
The sunflower seeds in this recipe will pacify Pittas and soothe their internal fire. The additional oily ingredients such as almond butter and maple syrup all cool Pittas intense internal heat, whilst also maintaining a healthy digestive system. Maple syrup also acts as a natural sweetener and binder without aggravating this dosha type.

The Kapha protein ball:

  • 2 large handfuls Walnuts
  • 130g Apricots
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1tbsp almond butter
Apricots are an astringent food and also considered bitter which is extremely pacifying and balancing for the Kapha dosha. Almond butter not only acts as a binding agent but is also a recommended nut for Kaphas, alongside walnuts.

Method for all protein balls:

  • Place the nuts into a food processor first and pulse until broken down into small chunks
  • Then add all the remaining ingredients into the food processor and blend until everything is well combined.
  • Wet your hands with water to prevent sticking and then take a dessert spoon of the mixture and roll into a ball.
  • Option to coat the balls in shredded coconut before placing in the fridge to firm up. Coconut coating not advised for Kapha’s.
